MEDI-CAL PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST SUPERVISOR
Peer Support Specialist Supervisor teach workers the knowledge and skills they need to perform work tasks, evaluate work performance through direct observation, co - working, assessments, and reflection, all in collaboration with the peer worker, structure learning opportunities to help workers grow, and advocate for worker’s participation in on-going training.
Peer Support Specialist Supervisor Requirements
An individual may be a Peer Support Specialist Supervisor if they have completed a DHCS-approved peer support supervisory training curriculum and meet the following qualifications below:

» Have a Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Program certification (CalMSHA) and two years of experience working in the behavioral health system; AND

» Have a Peer Support Specialist Supervision Certification (CalMSHA) AND
-
» Licensed Clinician (LCSW, LMFT) State of California
Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Supervisor.
Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Supervisors must understand the variety of peer roles, have a deep understanding of the core competencies of peer workers, understand the specific peer support job of the person they supervise, participate in trainings designed for peer support workers, give feedback on work, validate and provide encouragement, promote self - care practices, and advocate for peer support roles. Supervisors play a key role in the successful integration of peer workers in the workplace.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide regular and effective supervision.

Offer emotional support and encouragement

Knowledge of Code of Ethics for Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist

Knowledge of family systems theory and facilitating family support groups.

Overview of Peer Support Specialist in Behavioral Settings

Establish a welcoming and inclusive workplace

Understanding Peer Support Services

Supervision and Support
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Educational Requirement: Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California
-
Obtained the CalMHSA Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Supervisor.

Have two (2) years of experience working in the behavioral health system; and
-
The principles in the Code of Ethics for Certified Peer Support Specialists in California

Be knowledgeable of the Core Competencies
Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in documentation skills and adherence to confidentiality standards.

Proficiency in English is preferred but not required for this position.

The Peer-to-Peer relationship focuses on the relationship between the parents, caregivers, and/or family member’s support on behalf of the person in care.
Peer Support Specialists - Parent, Caregiver, Family Member Peer use their experiences to deliver peer support services across a variety of roles and settings. Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists- Parent, Caregiver, Family Member Peer make a meaningful impact on individuals' lives as consumers of these services or as parents or family members of consumers by serving as sources of hope and empowerment. They are integral members of a supportive team that values lived experience and mutual growth, contributing to a community that prioritizes wellness and recovery.
Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist (CMPSS) with a specialization in Parent, Caregiver, and Family Member Peer Support.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting the wellbeing of the families they serve. This position focuses on fostering meaningful peer-to-peer relationships, providing support to parents, caregivers, and family members on behalf of individuals in their care.
Working within the established Core Competencies for the profession, the CMPSS will deliver services grounded in lived experience, empathy, and mutual respect. The specialist is expected to maintain the highest level of professionalism by conducting themselves ethically and adhering to all applicable codes of ethics and standards of practice.
Key Responsibilities:

Support engagement in mental health and substance use treatments.

Overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in children and the effects on their brain.
-
Foster cooperation between families, the individual, and the service systems involved in their lives.

Knowledge of family systems theory and facilitating family support groups.

Understanding of individual and family culture, biases, stigma, and trauma.
-
Support parents, caregivers, and family members with navigating a variety of service delivery systems.
-
Refer and link individuals to community support services and resources.
Minimum Qualifications:

Educational Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent degree
-
Self-identify as having experience with the process of recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder, either as a consumer of these services or as the parent, caregiver, or family member of a consumer.

Obtained the CalMHSA Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (CMPSS).
-
Obtained specialization certification: Parent, Caregiver, and Family Member Peer
-
Must maintain certification requirements in good standing with the certification board.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health and addiction recovery advocacy or related field.

Scope of practice for certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists in California.
